The panniers arrived today so I spent a while packing and re-packing. Weight distribution is going to be important and I can already tell that load might be something I need to watch out for. As things stand now, without food or water, the bike and all the gear weighs in at 131.1 pounds. I’m not sure what “normal” is so I’ll be looking online for what others are carrying. The downtheroad blog mentioned something about the guy riding with 100 – 150 pounds of gear–bike included. I’ll have to take the loaded bike out for a spin and see how it does.
Anyway, here’s my ride.
It’s pretty much packed up with everything on the Equipment page except the PitBull Mini lock (not sure where to put it) and the Eee PC + accessories. The solar panel worked out perfectly strapped onto the rear pack. I ended up using 2x 36″ adjustable bungee cords from Grainger (#4FA44). The hooks were too thick so I used a hack saw to trim them down.

Nice rig! What kind of bag is that slung across the rear Ortliebs?
