03/06 Made it safe and sound to the HoJo in Statesboro.  $49 + breakfast in the morning.  That means I’m also done with the very handy ACA maps for a while.  Now I’m going to be dependant on the GPX file I created for my GPS using the Google Map converter.  The route from Statesboro to Atlanta is 233 miles so there are probably going to be several last minute changes ahead for me.  I have a somewhat detailed map of Georgia from American Map to fall back on if need be.  The thing I’m going to have the most trouble with is finding campgrounds.  The paper map only has a few listed between here and Atlanta.  I guess I’m not too worried about it– things are a little more spread out now so I’m sure I’ll find something.

Getting out of Reidsville was a breeze.  It’s been getting hotter during the day so I’ve been going through a bit more water.  Fortunately everyone has been quick to offer it if I ask and I’ve only once filled up the bottles with well water that had a horrible sulphur taste.  Had breakfast at a place just outside the CG and met Al who sat down and gave me tips about places to eat/stay in South Dakota.  Dinner was at this place called Captain D’s and man was that the greasiest seafood I’ve ever had in my life.  I managed to eat half and had to chuck the rest.

I meant to get the bike looked at but the only bike shop in town is 5 miles away from where I am and there’s no way I’m riding that far. :)   It looks like the rubbing might be from the front derailleur so if it starts making noise again tomorrow I’ll adjust it a bit.  When I get to Atlanta I’ll take the bike in for a complete tune-up.

So you ate at Captain D’s and thought their food was great? Could it be you were hungry and wanting other than snicker bars & coke? You aren’t stressed are you? LOL Should we worry about your equanimity? LMAO Captain D’s are plentiful around these parts. Uncle Paul & I haven’t eaten there yet. There’s one here in Cookeville. When you get here, we’ll treat! LOL Speaking of Uncle Paul, he and his co-workers keep up on your journey at work during the wee hours of the night when they are at work. I think they spend all their time on line. Be safe.

    Hi Scott,

A suggesttion on spray. If you can find any bear pepper spray it works great on dogs also. We always carry it in Montana and it will stop a grizzley charge. Bass Pro or Cabelas will likely carry it. Any type of pepper spray is best. Having zapped numerous dogs during my career. I glad you learned about Captain D’s. You only make that mistake once. Keep pedaling. Uncle Dave
