03/22 Made it to Cookeville. Not too bad of a ride but Tennessee still had some hills to throw at me. What a nice state to ride through. Almost no garbage on the roads and plenty of signs reminding all the red pickups to share the road. Lots of waves and people gave me plenty of room while I teetered up the hills.

My bike isn’t sounding too good. After getting it “tuned-up” in Atlanta the shifting hasn’t been as smooth and it’s getting worse. In most of the gears I also hear a very annoying clicking noise. I’ll have to find a place in town so they can look at it.

Made it to my Aunt Leta’s at 2pm. I won’t go into the warnings she left in the note for me but there was a nice surprise by way of home cooked brownies and 7-layer bars on the counter. I took a before shot of the plates.

In one of the gas station/deli’s I stopped in today the owner was telling me about a guy that came in there about a year ago that was riding his horse from Tennessee to California. I Googled him when I got here and here’s a link to his site. I have a hard enough time keeping myself fed and watered let alone having to take care of 2 horses. And where do you sleep? A motel isn’t going to cut it. Unfortunately it looks like he had a heart attack in December and had to stop his trip. I kind of have mixed feelings about the trip after thinking about it more–it’s to raise awareness for a great cause but I don’t think I’d bring horses with me. That has to be pretty rough on them.

I’ll probably be here until Tuesday morning and then it’s off to Mount Rushmore. I’m not leaving this state until I find some fried pickles so hopefully there will be something along the way.

Cookeville Bicycles can take a look at your bike. The guy that runs its honest and a nice guy. Good luck on your journey.

It’s a bit..ok..maybe a bit more than a bit out of your way, but my mom lives in Jamestown, TN – right off US27 – If ya want a home cooked meal, a hot shower and maybe some clothing (she runs a local thrift shop for the needy) you would be in luck :)

Scott made here to our house in Cookeville. He’s enjoying all the homemade goodies & home cooked meals. He’s getting lots of sweets to keep up with his coke and snickers bar diet since he left South Florida. LOL Mostly, he’s enjoying the beer, but not in excess! I’m keeping an eye on that. He looks healthy and rested. He commented the bed he’s sleeping in here is very comfy, but what bed wouldn’t be comfy after the places he has been sleeping! His only complaint is climbing the steps to his bedroom. He says his legs are too tired to climb steps. LOL Uncle Paul & I are thoroughly enjoying his visit as well as hearing about all the happenings with his trip!
