Picked up the bike today.
Phil Wood sent the bearings overnight and even picked up the cost of the shipping. One of the guys there said the touring hubs usually last 12k – 15k miles so for me to only get 1400 miles out of them was very unusual. I wrote back with how much weight I’m carrying directly over the rear hub (about 50 lbs) to see if that contributed to their demise. Thanks again Cookeville Bicycles for the fast turnaround. I rode the bike back to my Aunt’s (~5 miles) and it rides just like the first day I got it.
Made a pit stop in the downtown area and took some pics. The weather is supposed to get bad (rain) starting tonight and lasting until tomorrow night or so.

WOW!!! You got a picture of the only police car in Cookeville. Where are the pictures of the campus at Tennessee Tech?
No pictures of TN Tech. Scott was too busy looking elsewhere and guess where that “elsewhere” was. Need I say more??? We left the pawn shop, and he begged me to take him thru the campus not ONCE but 3 more times! LMAO Just kidding.
he should have planned his trip here during cheerleading camp tech holds every year… he might not have ever wanted to leave lol
LMAO
I’m so impressed with your adventure, Scott. I have been following your trip map for the past month and only today found the blog that you’re keeping; I’m a little retarded. Anyway, I read through all of your posts this afternoon, my new job really keeps me busy.
I think it’s awesome that you met up with someone so early on in your trip to ride with for a few days and would think that it gets a little lonely out there on your own every day. Do you have plans to join up with anybody else during your trip?
Also, I found it interesting that you packed a gat for the trip. One of the first things that went through my head, when I was reading through your list of the most valuable pieces of equipment, was how I would want some type of protection with me while staying in some of these places; especially when not on formal camping grounds. I hope the cash comes in handier that the weapon would have.
Keep up the great blog and be safe.
Hey Ryan! Good to hear from you. I’m not going to comment on you missing the rest of the site. No plans to meet up with anyone else but I suspect I’ll run into more cyclists once it warms up a little more. I’ve actually yet to have a day where I’ve been lonely. There have only been a couple times that I’ve stopped somewhere and haven’t had a chance to strike up a conversation with someone. Getting rid of the 9mm was something I’d been thinking about for a while. The only possible thing I’d be able to defend myself with it from would be people and the risk of that is very low. For something like a bear it wouldn’t do much good and they have pepper spray for that. If need be I can still hack someone up with with my knife or gnaw on them. So far the money from the gun has gotten me a nice (dry) place to sleep tonight, paid for my bike repairs and will soon be feeding me if the pizza I ordered ever gets here.
Scott,
Glad to hear that we were able to get your bike back in good shape. I hope your trip continues to go well.
Hey Nick. Good to hear from you. The bike is still running like a champ. You guys did an awesome job on it. Not to get all sappy but I’ve been to a lot of bike shops over the years and you/Warren were probably 2 of the nicest techs I’ve ever dealt with. You should hit Warren up for a raise.
Take care.
