Happy Birthday Dad!!!
OK, so planning a route that spans multiple days through a major, somewhat-more-dangerous-than-average city is a little trickier than I thought. Technically I could have tore through the city and jumped onto the ACA route that starts in Hartford but there are a couple issues with that. I really need to get a spare tube and possibly a new tire for my bike. I could also use a 2nd long-sleeve bike jersey. It’s supposed to rain/snow Sunday and Monday and if I’m not riding through the worst of it I’ll be happy. There are also a few places I’d like to visit while I’m in Saint Louis and there’s just no way I can fit everything in without staying a day or two.
So I’ve literally spent hours figuring out where to stay that won’t cost a fortune and that’s located relatively close to a place where I can get some bike supplies. I’ve also been researching the safest routes to get to where I want to go. I’m honestly not that worried about riding through a bad area but I’m also not going to take any unnecessary risks. I have health insurance but if someone steals my bike/gear I’d be on my own. Of course if they shoot me that would just suck for its own reasons.
So I think I have a good plan now. There’s a campground about 25 miles outside the city that I’ll stay at tomorrow night. Then I’ll be staying with someone who is registered on couchsurfing.com for 2 nights (for free but I’ll be begging them to let me buy them dinner one night). This will be the first time staying with someone I’ve found using the site but after talking with them on the phone I think it will be a great experience.

Hey Karen. Thanks for the invite. I’ll probably be heading out of here tomorrow and staying at the campground at Lewis and Clark State park for a night so I think I’ll be good. I really appreciate the offer though.
