For the first time in years I woke up to snow falling. Fortunately I could go back inside, shut the door and be nice and warm again. Trying to take a picture of it coming down didn’t work out very well.

Had a pretty busy day running errands with Crystal and her oldest daughter Jess. First we ran over to REI and picked up the last Continental Travel Contact tire they had in stock. Also picked up some thick merino wool trekking socks for wearing at night, some more backpacking soap and a fancy new mini-broom and dust pan. Then it was over to Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s for some trail mix (3 kinds), oatmeal and some other goodies. I’ll be eating very well for the next few days.

After some lunch Crystal drove me around to see some of the local attractions in Saint Louis. The zoo was great but it was really cold out with the wind so we just ran in to check out the bears and penguins. Then we headed over to see the art/science museums (didn’t go in though–we were too happy to be back in the warm car). There’s so much history in this city. I just wish I had more time to see everything.

Staying here has been a blast. Anyone lucky enough to stay with Crystal and her family will undoubtedly enjoy it here as much as I have. I’m sure we’ll stay in touch after I leave.

Tomorrow will be a short riding day. Just going to head over to the Lewis and Clark park and set up camp for the night. Then it’s on to the Katy Trail for 225 miles of no cars.

Hey, welcome to Missouri! Sorry for the unusually nasty weather. Are you planning on going through KC? If so, don’t miss the best BBQ in the world (I’m a little biased). Keep up the great posts.

I want to hear lots of details about the Katy Trail. As a former MO boy, it’s been on my to-do list for a long time. I met up with my high school geology teacher on my last trip back home and we talked about riding it in April. Since it’s already April, looks like we may want to wait until fall. I’m sure glad I’m not on it right now. A little bit of cold goes a long way.
