04/17 If I was only a little frustrated yesterday I’m a lot frustrated today. My foot hasn’t been getting any better and it’s a lot hillier around here than I thought so even limiting my days to 30 miles hasn’t helped. Right around lunch time the tendon area got really sore and I knew it was time to rest it. It does make a neat creaking noise when I pinch it so there’s that I guess.
I lucked out because right next to where I ate lunch there’s an older, cheap motel that has everything I need for a break. Internet access, fridge, microwave and it’s fairly clean. My next mission is to find a drug store and get some ice packs. I’m paid up for 3 days but I may have to stay a couple days longer than that. The only reason I’m not totally demoralized about the whole situation is a friend of mine gave me some truly amazing news that completely negated how bad I was feeling.
The CG last night ended up being free. One of the guys staying there called the owner and she said I could stay for the night at no charge. There were in fact no bathrooms either. Normally for a guy that’s not a big deal but also lacking were bushes, tall grass, cows, trees, hills or structures with sides facing away from people. I did have some zip-lock baggies though.
Oh and a Llama came charging at me when I was riding past it on the road. That was kind of amusing. On an unrelated note I also destroyed my top speed record by hitting 38.6 mph. That was going down the hill into Excelsior which makes me wonder about the hill going out of Excelsior.
So if something exciting happens I’ll post an update but otherwise I’m signing off until Monday (and then whenever I get internet access after that). I’ll have to get my Alaska fix on the Discovery channel at this rate. This town is going to drive me crazy too. I keep saying, “Excelsior!” wherever I see the name thanks to the Al Gore character in South Park’s “Manbearpig” episode.

Hmmm….Aunt Leslie is in Michigan…..maybe she better drive over to MO and pick you up so you can rest at her hotel for a couple weeks while your foot heals. I think she has dial up….LOL…..oh yeah, she’s high speed now.
I am probably the one most available to come get you. Forget the others! LOL After all, my hours have been cut again. Soon I’ll be considered part-time, part-time! Is there such a thing? LOL
All kidding aside Scott, take care of that foot! So what if you take 1-2 weeks rest. It’s better than the altenative. No sense in being a dyed in the wool bicyclist!
Well, we are so sorry to hear about your foot….hopefully you really do rest it.
I love the photos….good idea putting the camera on the road.
Let us know if you need anything!!! Remember…there are a lot of couch surfers out there who would be glad to take you in!
