05/22 If I had to pick one word to describe Devil’s Tower it would be stunning. It’s really just an incredible sight rising over 1200 feet from the river below it. The sides of it are my favorite feature. It looks like columns were pressed into the sides to hold it up. I can why this place is such a huge draw for mountain climbers. Very glad I made the trip here.

The ride today wasn’t too bad but there were a few decent uphills. Traffic was actually kind of light for a Memorial Day weekend. Not sure if they have wolves around here but if it wasn’t a wolf I saw a pretty big coyote running through one of the open areas next to the road. The picture didn’t come out very well because I only had 15 seconds to get my camera out and take a couple shots. Also saw some deer and a golden eagle.

Once I arrived here I set up my tent in the park and rode up to the base of the tower. There’s a mile hike around the base but I skipped it. Still have this cold that I was hoping to get rid of. It’s just annoying more than anything. I ended up staying awake until 3am last night and had to get up at 8am so I’d have time to get ready before checkout.

Tomorrow I have wicked climb ahead of me first thing in the morning. Maybe they have a shuttle? :) Hit 3000 miles today too. Also tried a beer I hadn’t had before called Workhorse. Good stuff.

The ears are decent far apart, and don’t seem too peaky on that creature…so I’m going to have to go with Wolf. Hope you’re not being “hunted”, lol :p

That is not a wolf, that’s a coyote. Coyotes are curious and will check you out. Wolves are stealthy
