06/01 If only every day was as easy as today. Knocked out a quick 40 miles and made it here by noon. The climb so far has been very gradual and with a strong tailwind I cruised along without much effort. That will change dramatically in 15 miles when I reach the park entrance.
Spectacular scenery along the road made for some nice riding. There’s a wide shoulder so I could afford to look up and around more than usual. There wasn’t a lot of traffic which was nice. Rode through a short tunnel and then a really long one. I turned on my lights and plowed through it without much problem. The speed limit for cars was 35 mph and it was fairly well lit so the cars could see me pretty easily.
This seems to be the only CG open from here to Cody and the last one before Yellowstone that allows tent camping. I was worried for a while that this one would be closed too. There are a couple other people here but not many. A light rain started falling an hour after I got here and it’ll probably do the same tomorrow so I’m going to get up early so I don’t get rained on at 9000 feet.
Also had my first successful general delivery via the post office today. I was almost out of touring cards (name/web site info for people I meet that ask for the info) so my Aunt mailed some extras I’d left with her. Since there’s only one post office in town they held it there until I could pick it up. Thanks Aunt Leigh Ann.

Nice antlers…. glad you didn’t run into those……you owe me $5.11, I’ll just keep a running tab.
Yeah that would have left a mark.
