07/11 Hands down today was the nicest day of riding in as long as I can remember. There was no wind! It was so nice. My average speed was 13.1 mph and that was even with some decent hills. It’s warm out too– 26 C (79 F).

One of the disadvantages of cruising along so fast is that you don’t have a lot of time to react to things such as massive black bears at the side of the road. Had it not moved so I could see it I would have ridden within a half dozen feet of where it was snacking next to the road. I stopped about twenty feet away and crossed over to the other side of the road once I was pretty sure it wasn’t going to come after me. It’s so crazy being that close to a bear without a moat or fence separating you from it. Love it.

As expected the road was pleasure to ride on today. It was fairly flat and straight almost the entire way. Traffic wasn’t too bad either and it should drop down even more once I get back on the Alaska Highway and head west away from the city.

Fort Nelson isn’t that big but there are a lot of services available, including the motel I’m staying in tonight. After I’m done with this I’m going to do a much needed load of laundry. On the way here I stopped at a Boston Pizza and chowed down on a 12″ pizza. The Molson Canadians helped wash it down. :) Then it was over to IGA for some food. One of the things I bought was a big bag of vegetables and some veggie dig. I didn’t realize it but the flavor of the dip is White Chocolate Cheesecake. It’s vegetable dip! That flavor should not exist except maybe in ice cream that you expect to make you fat.

Oh I found my other gloves sitting in my trunk bag right where I left them. Too late to return the new ones so I’m stuck with them.
