07/13 The tire held out for the short ride to the CG where I’m at now but I can see the tire buldging out from where the tube is trying to push through the weakened area. It’ll just be a matter of time before I have to put my spare tire on. I moved a lot of things from the rear panniers to the front so that might have helped. I’m really glad it didn’t blow out on the way here. I left at 3:30pm from Steamboat which is when it finally stopped raining. I would have stayed the day and waited for the weather to clear but I was down to one bottle of water. I did fashion a rain-collecting contraption using my bike cover and that got me another half bottle.
Another little issue has cropped up that I’ll have to watch. I scratched a mosquito bite on my right foot a little too hard a couple days ago and it tore the skin a bit. Sweat and rain have done a good job of keeping my feet constantly wet so now the little red mark has become infected. It’s now about an inch and half long and half an inch wide. Sweet. I have some Neosporin and bandaids but I need to clean it too. I hate having to pee on my foot so soon into my trip.
There’s a lodge with a store not too far so they might have something that will keep the bandaid on and dry.
While I was praying for my tire to stay in one peice I did get to enjoy some great views from the top of the mountain as the road wound down into the valley. One cool spot was Indian Head Mountain. I was treated to another avid photographer while I was climbing up the steepest part of the mountain. As I approched their truck I waved and took a picture of them. The lady taking the pictures told me they’d driven up from Florida. Small world.
The campground here is right on the river and it the host (Debbie) does a great job keeping things clean around here. She said I could keep my food in her RV so the bears don’t come looking for it. There’s a hand pump for water but it said to boil it for 15 minutes. I ended up just filtering it.

oh my goodness!! what the heck are you going to about that tire? and make sure when you get some band-aids for your foot, that you get the fabric ones because they stick better.
Peeing on an open wound is that such a good idea? Did you see that on Man VS Wild?
