08/15 Home sweet home! 3 nights in one campground is a record for me. This time there are actually other people here. 2 RV’s to be exact. After setting up the tent I grabbed a quick shower and rode over to the Halfway Lodge and had some delicious pork chops. Couldn’t leave without have apple pie and ice cream too. The owners were happy to see me and asked all about my trip. Very nice people.

Nothing new on the ride here. Stopped at the Knotty Shop and had some coffee and ice cream. No pictures today since I’d seen it all before. Leaving Fairbanks I was surprised to see a couple signs on the on-ramps saying no bicycles or pedestrians allowed. Then about 5 miles outside town there was a sign right before some railroad tracks warning bicyclists to use caution when crossing the tracks. Very strange that they would prohibit bikes but still be courteous enough to warn them about road hazards. I assume the onramp signs are just old. Obviously they don’t want to completely isolate Fairbanks from anyone wanting to ride in/out via bicycle since the Richardson Highway is one of the only roads to the lower 48 that I know of.

Nothing going on at the Air Force base. One big plane (DC10-sized) was practicing takeoffs and landings but no fighters.

It rained all day. I guess it wasn’t really rain; more like a drizzle. Crappy… that’s pretty much how it was. :)

Still excited to be heading to Denali.

I’ll be anxiously awaiting to see your pics from Denali. They will probably be some of your best. It’s certainly awesome territory. Be careful and remember you are always in our thoughts and prayers.
