To say that this morning has been crazy is a little bit of an understatement. As things stand now I’m officially confirmed on a ferry from Whittier, Alaska to Prince Rupert, British Columbia for a Wednesday sailing. I’ll be in B.C. on Saturday night. The ferry leaves at 7pm so I’ll need to be in Whittier by 4pm. To make that happen I’m taking a train from Denali to Anchorage tomorrow and then from Anchorage to Whittier Wednesday morning. I was very close to leaving on the train today but I would have had to rush to pack everything. It’s raining to top it off so I’ll just take my time and leave tomorrow. If I wouldn’t have booked this ferry the next one wouldn’t be leaving for another month.

I grabbed a cabin for the couple nights so I’ll be able to stay warm and dry. It only added $86 to the ticket so it was a good deal. To transport my bike set me back $63. I need to find a place to stay in Anchorage tomorrow but that shouldn’t be too hard. All this ends up being much less than it would cost to ride out if that were even possible at this point. Not sure how I’m getting out of Prince Rupert yet but they have ferries there too. I’ll figure that out today.

In Cantwell right now it’s raining and 47 F. That’s the forecast for the next week. The weather in Vancouver for the weekend is supposed to be sunny with a 0% chance of precipitation. High of 73 F. :)

Update: On the 31st I have a ferry booked from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy on the northern tip of Vancouver Island. From there it’s a short 250 mile ride down the island to Victoria and then another ferry to the mainland.

  1. How long are you going to be in Vancouver? I am flying there for the long weekend on Sept. 4 and leaving on Sept. 6.

I’ve got some catching up to do on here since I’ve been visiting friends and family! What you have done is amazing! I have so enjoyed your journey!

Are you ferrying from Victoria to Port Angeles or Seattle? I have family and friends in Port Angeles.

    Safe travels

I was going to head to Port Angeles but my oldest sister might be in Vancouver around that time so now I’m not sure. Hopefully when I get closer to Victoria I’ll know which way I’m going.
