09/03 The riding funk I’m in his manifested into an all out disdain for human contact. Just kidding… it’s not that bad. I did start off having one of those mornings where you just don’t to want to talk to anyone. As luck would have it everyone wanted to talk to me though. In the cafe this woman comes over and asks if I’d like to join her, her husband and a friend of theirs for breakfast. Normally I would have but it was too much too soon. At Starbucks in town here I ordered my coffee and went outside to be alone with my bike. This guy, who had been sitting inside, came out and sat down at my table and started the trip questions. Now at camp there’s a guy a couple sites over who is just dying to come over and chat but I just can’t do it.
Made a non-food purchase today. I think this is only like the 4th thing I’ve purchased in over six months. If you know me then you know this is a massive change from when I lived in Florida. Anyway, it’s an AC charger for my batteries. The iSun one has had it. It seemed to have worked last night but 80% of the time it only charges the batteries a little. The AA ones I have are Eneloop so they should be good for many more recharges. All this trouble for a GPS. I still find it useful so it’s worth it.
Saw some interesting things along the road today. The mountains are mostly gone now and I could see the Strait of Georgia after a few hours of riding. My old friend the headwind was back today. It kicked up pretty good from the SE at noon and hasn’t let up. The weather forecast says it’ll be like this until Monday.
Staying at the Thunderbird RV park in the city. I should have looked for something else. $17 gets you a tent site 10 feet from the road. I feel like I’m in a fish bowl. “Oh the traffic is just local traffic so it’s not loud,” the lady tells me. Traffic hasn’t stopped and I’m listening to an 18 wheeler load up in the shipping yard across the street. The tent site is also all the way at the end of the park so I have to ride back to the office to take a shower. Had to pay another $2 for that. Internet was another $1. This ranks up there in the worst places I’ve camped so far.
Here’s some heartwarming news: the absolute last thing I ever want to have to do is peer down into the septic tank in an outhouse to see if I’m really alone. I may have to though. Sick.

How many miles did it take to burn the calories in the jumbo cookie?
At least 20. It was worth it though.
I can identify with you. Sometimes you need to retreat into your own head and suddenly you’re surrounded by folks who have to fill every second of silence with noise.
A reporter and I flew into Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas to do a story about the Mudd Family trying to clear the name of Dr. Mudd, who was charged with conspiracy in the murder of Abraham Lincoln.
The reporter was good at his job and one of the most prolific guys I’ve ever worked with. But he had just way too much perk and energy for my taste.
When the plane left us on the island, I told the pilot, “If you’re not here to pick us up this afternoon, there’s a good probability that only one passenger will be flying back with you in the morning.”
A little moody I see, I think you need some Aunt time. OMG Took Zach to the mall today, all I can say is, ” I wish I had my camera.”
Nice Post!
