Slacked off big time today. Grabbed a motel at 2pm and was done. I suppose the rain helped with the decision to call it quits early but honestly I was exhausted. It rained all night which made it hard to sleep but then my camping neighbors’ 3 year old woke up at 5am and started crying…and crying…and crying. So sleep depravation was the biggest reason. The parents were really great people though. The wife (Tiffany) and I met when her 3 year old came running over to see my bike and then proceed to inspect all my gear when they first got there. His name was Abraham–but its pronounced “Abe ram” which I can’t seem to spell. Cutest kid ever (except for my cousin Zach). Her husband was out trying to find a replacement key to get into their trailer because it was MIA. No luck so he ended up just buying some clothes and a tarp since that’s all that was locked up. They were pretty lucky that’s all they couldn’t get to since they paid $75 to take the ferry over from Vancouver.

My quiet, scenic Hwy 19a merged rather abruptly into Hwy 19 shortly after leaving this morning. Hwy 19 is a 2 lane divided highway that is extremely busy, and probably even busier because of the holiday. It was crazy. Very loud and along some of the stretches there was barely a shoulder to ride on. Lot’s of screws/nails that needed dodging too. Glad I finally got off that road (alive).

Had lunch at my favorite place–Subway. It kind of sucks eating there when you are soaked to the skin because they always keep that place just a little too cool. I must have been quite a sight to the other people standing in line as water dripped off me. :) The foot long Roast Beef w/everything sure tasted good though. I thought some coffee might help warm me up so I stopped at Starbucks a little further down. Guess what happened? Right. Once again I had a visitor. This guy didn’t sit down, he just waited outside by my bike until I was finished drinking my coffee and then he came over when I was leaving. It was cool talking to him though. My cheery demeanor is returning. :)

Been chatting with Mark whom I’d met on the road the other day. He suggested a great route to Victoria via a ferry that cuts across to Hwy 17a. This should be a much better route than staying on the main highway.

No pictures today because wet and urban has been done already.
