09/19 I’ve kind of been slacking off a little and not updating my site every day but I’m a little blog-fatigued. Maybe once every couple days is good for a bit.

Since leaving Pacific City I’ve run into the same group of guys at camp every night so it’s been cool seeing some people I kind of know. I thought I lost everybody with the short day I took but it turned out everyone took it easy that day. I never see anyone during the day which is a bit surprising but I tear up the hills pretty fast so I might be getting ahead that way.

Riding along the coast has been incredible. The variety of scenery never leaves you with the feeling that you’re seeing the same things all day. Today was no exception. Went from flat beach riding to hilly cliff-side riding with dense rain forest thrown in. At the end of the day I could see massive sand dunes running along the coast for as far as the eye can see. Saw sea lions for the first time today (not ever–just on this trip). They were hanging out on some rocks down below the cliff I’d stopped at. The shrubby trees along the coast are cool. The tops of them have been molded by the wind into very distinct shapes that show which way the wind typically blows in from.

Yesterday I rode through a place that had the world’s shortest river–it was just called the “D” river. That next town had the world’s smallest harbour (I’m putting u’s back in all my words again–thanks Canada). Today I ran into a place that lets you see the world’s largest sea lion cave (for $11). I skipped it because the lady said they were all in the water so you couldn’t really see them. Besides I saw them for free about 10 minutes before that.

There are a lot of places to stop for breaks along the 101. At least every 10 miles there’s a city/town/village. Makes for easy coffee and ice cream breaks. Found a place that had huckleberry ice cream which was a bonus.

Weather has been perfect for the most part. It rained a little last night but it had cleared up by noon. Temps have been in the mid-60′s. Great riding weather.

  2. These are amazing pics. I especially love the one you took of the lighthouse – great composition. I never knew about this park, but I have to visit now that I’ve read this photo blog.
