Instead of continuing south like I’d planned I decided to hang out in SF for a couple days. It wasn’t a cheap decision with motel prices being what they are but it was worth it. The last time I took a day off was almost a month ago and my rear end paid for it. Staying here was more about just relaxing than actually site seeing but my butt felt better today so I hopped on the unloaded bike and rolled around the city. Most of my riding was along the water as to avoid the 18% and higher grades.
There were a million people and bikes out enjoying the cool, sunny day so I had to be careful to watch for cars/trains/bikes/joggers/hippies. Stopped at my favorite lunch place, In-N-Out Burger. While my bike sat outside I scarfed down a #2. Right when I was getting ready to leave a group of about 10 people came into the store and started singing, “I’m too sexy…”. While they did their thing one of them videotaped it. It was pretty amusing to say the least. They finished up and left to a few scattered claps.
My Dad will be happy to know that I’ve finally been able to use the IHOP gift card he bought me before I left.
Spent a little time this morning messing with my front panniers. The one on the left has been popping off at very inopportune times, like when I’m going down a hill at high speed for example. After having to quickly correct for the new weight distribution I have to stop and run back to get it. It’s almost always sitting right in the middle of the road too. It’s sitting in the rack a little tighter now so hopefully it stays on.
My laptop was very close to getting thrown across the room yesterday. For some reason help screens kept coming up while I was typing. Firefox and even Windows itself quickly became unusable thanks to the multiple help windows/tabs getting opened. I finally figured out that the F1 key was responsible for it even though it wasn’t physically stuck or even dirty underneath. To get it working again I downloaded a key mapping program and disabled F1. Now it works fine again. I could RMA it but it would just be a hassle and who knows when they’d send it back. It’ll probably get stolen at some point anyway so I’m not even going to bother.

Hey there… you HAVE TO let me know if you need a place to stay anywhere along the way!!! I could have set you up in SF if you’d just told me! I still have peeps in Monterey and southern california. But you need to tell me what your route is going to be and where you have gaps in your bed-and-board-for-free-computer-support plan! anyway, sounds like you’re having a great time. Cheers, L2
Oops.
Usually I just whiz through bigger cities and hit up the state park campgrounds. It’s hard for me to pin down dates when I’m going to be somewhere so I’ve been avoiding trying to make arrangements to stay with people. I feel too bad when I have to change plans on people last minute. I am still trying to find a place to stop and rest for 2 weeks anywhere along the coast. Monterey was actually where I’m thinking of so if you know anyone that has a spare guest house I’ll gladly take it.
I’ve been trying to find a nice quiet motel that rents by the week that might be affordable. Some easy days just lounging around will be soooo nice.
