12/03 Ended up a little further down the road than I expected. I was looking for a place about 50 miles from Catavina but after riding way past where it should have been I realized the map was wrong and the “town” didn’t exist. That didn’t leave a lot of options because the land in the area is as flat as a pancake so finding a secluded campsite would be impossible.

20 minutes after the sun had set I made it to Punta Prieta. I stopped in a store to see if there was a motel further down the road but no such luck. The lady that runs it let me camp down below the store next to a dirt road so that’s where I am tonight. I’ll get up early because I’m going to be pretty visible once it gets to be light out.

Nothing much in the way of scenery. There were a couple nice spots at the top of some bg climbs but mostly it was just dry and brown. The even more impressive boulder fields that were supposed to be south of Catavina weren’t there.
