The new rack is mounted on the bike and should be OK for riding once I buy a couple longer bolts. Couple issues that I need to work with Tubus on. I had to use a support bar off the old rack because the new one doesn’t fit the type of fork I have. This alone is going pushing me in the direction of asking Tubus to ship me the Ergo style rack that I had on my bike in the first place. They recommended I get the Tara rack because it’s supposedly more durable. Riding around with a new rack that has a rusted, scratched up part with 12,000 miles on it kind of reduces the durability factor a bit however.

The other problem is that the kickstand they sent does not fit on the new rack. This really stinks because now I have to carry around dead weight until this gets resolved.

I was planning on leaving tomorrow morning but now I need to make arrangements to fix or replace the rack. It’s possible to keep riding and I’ll probably hit the road Tuesday morning if Tubus gets back to me with a plan on Monday.

I’m probably more annoyed with this situation than I need to be because I hate getting and then having to work/use things that are flawed. For 13 years I had to deal with this at work and it bothers me now just as much as it did back then.

Met another rider yesterday. Cass Gilbert has been riding everywhere, favoring dirt roads over paved for most of his journey. His website along with some amazing pictures is here.

    Hi Scott,
I was just catching up on all your post. Doesn’t sound like the last couple weeks were too good for you. Gotta tell ya what a great time we all had in Tenn.
Hopefully you got to see some of the pics on F.B. Next July, the gathering will be here in Michigan. Take Care !!!!

    Hey Neph,

Sorry to hear about your horrible luck with the postal system. Good news!!!! Uncle Keith will be in Costa Rica about 45 minutes from a little town called Rio Claro which borders Panama. He wanted me to let you know if you needed anything he could bring it with him, leave it at the post office or maybe you two could make prior arrangements to meet. He will be there the on Aug. 8 for 10 ten days. Hope things shine brighter for you.

    Love,
    Aunt

    Hey Scott,

I’ve been following your blog and Cass Gilbert’s blog for quite some time (I’ve been following yours since I met you on the ferry from Victoria to Port Angelas, WA). I was wondering when you too would actually meet up, since you’ve been so close for months!

Hey Theo. I’m really really sorry but I can’t put a face to your name… were you one of the guys also on bike (I don’t think so though)? It’s funny because my friends Karin and Marten, who I keep in pretty constant contact with, mention him every month or so. I don’t want to pump up his ego too much but his blog is pretty amazing to read. :) Very cool guy in person too.
