Quick update. My rear hub broke for the 3rd time now. It happened just outside town so I didn’t have to push for very long. One of the families took me in and I’ve been staying with them since the 13th. The brother drove me 3 hours to Guatemala City and I ordered a new Shimano hub. That should be ready tonight and hopefully I’ll be back on the road Wednesday. Fun stuff this bicycle touring.
Update 8/17: picked up a new hub this morning so I´m planing on hitting the road tomorrow. As expected it didn´t go smoothly. They installed an 8-speed hub on a bike with a 9-speed cassette. They made the old cassette work although now I have a couple less gears to use. Hopefully it holds up.
