04/18 What a gorgeous section of road to Pedro Ruiz. Huge canyon walls on both sides and a fast moving river running alongside the road. There was a bit of construction going on but otherwise the road was in great shape and traffic was light. At one of the construction zones they had everyone stopped for twenty minutes so I chatted with the guys and told them about my trip. They were pretty cool and even brought me over a coconut to chop open and drink.

Pedro Ruiz is bigger than I thought. Found a great bakery and there are several decent looking restaurants. Staying at the Casablanca Hotel for $10 US. Nice place run by a very friendly owner. The shower (with hot water) was nice after a long hot day (111 F at one point).

Not sure what I’m going to do tomorrow. There’s a huge waterfall called Catarata de Gocta, one of tallest in the world, not too far off the main road that I might go check out. A 2 hour hike is needed to get to the base which might mean I stay in the village of Cocachimba where the trail starts.
