07/10 1 huge climb down, 3 more to go. Looks like I’ll make it into Cusco by the 16th or even on the 15th if I don’t take a day off. My bike needs a home while I fly to Florida so I posted something on Couchsurfing to see if anyone had some storage available. A couple people offered places and one sounds very promising.

Staying at a horribly overpriced hotel in Talavere. It’s another one of those “3-star” deals but the room looks and smells like urine. They charged S30 for it when it should be half that. It’s called the Hotel Turistico Talavera. I should have looked for something else but it was getting dark and since it’s Sunday there are drunken idiots stumbling around. I already had one guy come up to me like he wanted a hug or something by the plaza.

The road started out as hard-packed dirt but at km 40 the pavement began and lasted most of the way to the Talavere. Looks like are paving the entre section heading toward Chincheros. More great views on the climb with lot’s of huge mountains covered in snow in the distance. I’m loving the people along this stretch. Everyone is so friendly. The kids all say hi and one little girl walking along the road offered me a giant pea thing for a snack.
