09/17 No walking today but the ride wasn’t much smoother until I was about 10 miles south of Isla Incahuasi. I stopped in there at 1pm to grab some lunch at the restaurant but I guess they ran out of food so I was out of luck. I did manage to get some water so that was good I suppose.

After leaving the lsla I kept hearing this squeaking noise. At first I thought it was just a pannier rubbing on something but after taking one bag off at a time and doing a quick test ride I could still hear it. A bit annoyed now I took everything off and started checking for loose bolts. I’d just did this not even a week ago so I didn’t think this would be the problem.

Finally I happened to push down on the rear rack and it moved. It’s not really supposed to do that so I figured something was broken. Turns out it was the frame. The broken part is where the bolt securing the fender and rack screws onto the frame. You can see it in the picture.

It’s not going to get fixed anytime soon. Even a weld wouldn’t work–the broken area is under way too much stress. Hopefully the zip ties hold it. I’m sure it’s covered under warranty but if getting a frame shipped to Ecuador was a pain the ass I can imagine how Bolivia is.

On the plus side the squeaking stopped. :)

Not sure how this was made but it was neat.
The spot where my frame broke is by my finger.
This is the part that broke off.
Hope the zip ties hold my frame together.
Bad pic but you get the idea.
There's me camping.
