Here’s my new and improved plan for getting to the tip of South America.
I emailed Koga last night and they wrote back very quickly. They were quite surprised at the damage and offered to send a new frame ASAP given that it has a lifetime warranty. The thought of dealing with this right now is rather unappealing so I’m going to wait until I’m in a place that has a good bike mechanic and where I feel like stopping for a couple weeks. Not sure when that will be. Maybe Australia or New Zealand. Or the Netherlands if plane tickets to one of the aforementioned counties are too expensive. That’s my plan B anyway. I’ll just ride from Europe to SE Asia instead of the other way around. Koga is in the Netherlands so I can just drop the bike off for them.

Hi Friend
Hope plan B will work, and we can assure you, if you choose for plan B you will have the greatest time you can have in our house in the beautiful Netherlands, as you know you are more than welcome.
Love karin and marten
Hey Scott. I’m really surprised you’ve now had 2 separate problems with the Koga frame. That’s really unfortunate and very un Koga like. I was always leaning towards getting a Koga but recently I’ve been turned towards a Santos (also Dutch). I think your problems may have just helped me make the final decision!
Hope you’re still enjoying your trip – Keep the reporting and especially the photos coming. The photos help bring everything to life for us followers.
Cheers

Thanks Bob. The thing that makes this hardest for me is when I bought this bike I thought I would have it forever. Every little nick and scratch would have a story behind it. Most importantly though I’d have 100% confidence in it because I knew what it had been through. When I’m flying down a bumpy unpaved road I don’t worry about the Ortleib panniers snapping off, the Tubus racks breaking or the Schwalbe tires exploding. I have to worry about the frame breaking. Sure I can get another frame sent to me and pay hundreds of dollars for shipping/customs fees but it’ll be the same frame that just broke. Kind of kills the love if you know what I mean.
