Had a relaxing day off today but the ash in the air is kind of crazy. There are people walking around with masks on to help with breathing but I didn’t think it was quite that bad. You can definitely see it in the air when you look at things far away and it smells a bit like a what a grass fire smells like. My plan is to ride closer to where the volcano is erupting so I expect the ash to get worse for the next few days at least. Maybe I’ll cut back over to the east if it gets too bad.

I saw seven other touring riders today. One guy I talked to outside the supermarket for a bit but the rest were riding by. It’s unbelievable how many there are here. I’ve seen more bikers in the last 3 days than I have since California.

San Martin is a cool little town. There are more outdoor shops in this place than there are in the popular trekking towns in Peru. They need more bakeries though. And why are there no Chinese restaurants in Argentina?

Most buildings have the "mountain" theme going on.

Hard to see the lake because of the ash.
